Week of Service

Date: 04/25/24

As part of our mission to transform the health of the communities we serve, MHS dedicated April 15-19 as our company’s first-ever Week of Service. We believe volunteering in the communities where we live and work allows for all of us to thrive.

Throughout the week, nearly 100 MHS staff members partnered with various community organizations across the state of Indiana. In this week alone, our team has made an impact, racking up more than 20 volunteer hours and serving 2,296 Hoosiers. And this doesn’t capture the volunteer and community events our employees participate in year-long to give back.

For the Week of Service, our partner organizations included Wheeler Mission Center for Women and Children, the Alzheimer’s Association, Community Harvest Food Pantry, Wheeler Mission Men’s Shelter, Foodbank of Northwest Indiana, Firefly Children & Family Alliance, as well as Gleaners and the Pacers. We were honored to work alongside these amazing groups to help make a difference in serious issues facing our communities, including housing, youth and family welfare and food access. By focusing on these key areas, we believe we can see true improvement in the overall wellness for all Hoosiers. Here’s a snapshot of how we spent the week!

Wheeler Mission Center for Women & Children: Our volunteers worked the food line, serving food to women and children at the shelter.

Alzheimer’s Association: Volunteers helped spread the word about the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s coming up on Saturday, September 28.

Community Harvest Food Bank: Our volunteers stocked shelves and helped organize the Community Cupboard.

MHS X Pacers Block Out Hunger: Volunteers assisted in loading cars with pre-boxed food and directed traffic for the contactless, drive-thru distribution event.

Wheeler Mission Men’s Shelter: Our volunteers worked the food line, serving food to shelter residents.

Foodbank of Northwest Indiana: Our group assisted with packing and sorting food, as well as general cleaning.

Tindley Genesis: Our group working to create a great learning environment for students!

Firefly Children & Family Alliance: Volunteers helped sort and organize gently used and new donations for the toy room, used clothing room, and hygiene products room.

From stocking food pantry shelves, to shopping for foster children, to serving meals to shelter residents, to loading cars at drive-up food distribution events, our team members made a difference. Thank you to our partners and our employees for serving our communities well and making an #mhsIMPACT, this week and every day.
