Teens have a lot going on. At this time in their lives, they’re starting to go through many changes that are making them into a well-rounded, whole person.
Teens should begin to focus on all areas of their health. Physical, mental, emotional, and behavioral health are all important areas of their make-up.
Here are some areas that you can help your teen to focus on during these crucial years for growth:
Physical Health:
- Get regular exercise.
- Eat a heathy diet.
- Maintain a healthy weight.
- Get good sleep.
- Keep up with vaccinations.
- Brush and floss their teeth.
- Wear sunscreen.
- Don’t listen to loud music.
Mental Health:
- Learn how to cope with stress.
- Study and seek help in school.
- Work on relationships at home.
- Learn how to balance life between school, work, and social life.
- Don’t try to take on too much.
Emotional Health:
- Know how to recognize the signs of mental illness.
- Pay attention to moods and feelings.
- Learn how to ask for help.
- Accept yourself.
- Don’t bully others.
Behavioral Health:
- Avoid substance abuse.
- Drive safely.
- Wear protective headgear.
- Avoid violence.
- Practice safe sex or abstinence.
