What is a Sports or School Physical?

Date: 07/12/17

A sports or school physical is different than a well-child exam.

What is a sports or school physical?

There are two main parts to a physical. One is the child’s medical history. The other is the physical exam. This includes:

  • Checking the child’s weight and height
  • Checking blood pressure
  • Listening to the heart while the child is standing up and lying down
  • Checking the child’s muscles, bones and joints for issues that could be a problem in the future

These physicals are important. But MHS wants to make sure you also get your well-child exam. At your well-child exam, your doctor will do a complete physical exam, and will discuss all topics of your life to be sure you are staying healthy.

Your PMP is your medical home, and knows your full medical history. Schedule a well-child exam with your PMP today. A sports/school physical does not replace this important visit with your PMP. It is included as a part of your insurance through MHS for every child from newborn to age 21. Plus, you may be eligible to earn a reward!
