Get Rockin': MHS and Playworks Teach Students about Healthy Living
Date: 09/13/18
On Thursday, September 13, 2018, Managed Health Services (MHS) teamed up with Playworks to “adopt a school” and teach local students about healthy living through a “rockin’ recess” party. Rosie’s Rockin’ Recess took place at Alexandria-Monroe Elementary School in Alexandria. The two programs were held for kindergarten through second graders.
Dr. Eric A. Yancy, MHS chief medical officer and a practicing pediatrician, spoke to students about their health, the importance of staying active and the benefits of healthy eating. Dr. Yancy also presented Alexandria-Monroe Elementary with a financial donation on behalf of MHS. Educational books and prizes were distributed to the students, and all games and activities were led by Playworks. The event also included an appearance by MHS mascot RosieRoo.
“This event is a fun and informative way to bring a healthy message to kids,” MHS President and CEO Kevin O’Toole said. “It’s another part of the MHS commitment to support Indiana schools through educational programming.”
Playworks is a national nonprofit that helps schools and youth programs create healthy play environments for children. A variety of student activities and age appropriate games show kids how they can get great exercise while they play.
Rosie’s Rockin’ Recess is part of the MHS Adopt-a-School program. The program allows MHS and schools to collaborate on initiatives and programs to educate students and their families on the importance of healthy living. Learn more at mhsindiana.com.
