HIP Basic Members Moving to HIP Plus for Duration of Federal PHE

Date: 08/02/21

Managed Health Services (MHS) is your partner in health through the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP). Due to the continuing COVID-19 federal public health emergency (PHE), the Indiana Family and Social Services Agency (FSSA) is moving HIP Basic members to HIP Plus on August 1, 2021. You will receive one (1) letter from FSSA about this change. Please note that although these letters may say that payments are due, there are no payments due at this time. You will continue to use your current HIP member ID card when you receive health care services.

What do I need to do?

Nothing. This does not change your health coverage status. You will still have health coverage through HIP. You will get more benefits through HIP Plus that you don’t get through HIP Basic.

What is HIP Plus?

HIP Plus provides health coverage for a low, predictable monthly cost. It includes more benefits like dental, vision, or chiropractic. You also have access to mail-order and 90-day prescriptions as well as additional habilitative and rehabilitative services. With HIP Plus, you do not have copays when you visit the doctor, fill a prescription or go to the hospital for an emergency.

Do I have to make a payment now?

You do not have to make any payments to keep HIP Plus until the PHE ends. We will notify you when you need to start making payments to keep HIP Plus. You will have 60 days to make your first payment once you receive an invoice.

What if I don’t want HIP Plus?

You will have HIP Plus until the PHE ends at no cost to you. If you don’t want to keep HIP Plus after that, you can go back to HIP Basic which requires you to make co-payments when you visit the doctor, fill a prescription or go to the hospital. We will send you information to help you make a decision at that time.
