April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month
Date: 04/26/19
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. It’s important that throughout this month we learn and spread awareness. We’ll discuss key topics and include links to more facts.
In 2017 there were 163,110 investigated cases of abuse and neglect in Indiana. This is up 39.4% since 2013.
Kids who are victims of abuse or neglect may not feel brave enough to tell someone. When kids can’t find their voice, we must do our part to look for the signs. No child is the same. No experience is the same.
What are some common signs?
- Anxiety around adults
- Aggression toward adults or other children
- Hard time staying awake
- Dramatic changes in nature or actions
- Hard time focusing for a long time
- Odd interest in sex
- Frequent or random bruises or injuries
- Low self-worth
- Poor hygiene
If you suspect abuse or neglect, please call the Indiana Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-800-800-5556.
You can also contact the National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-422-4453.
If you believe a child is in urgent danger, call the police.
