Panel Size and Member Assignment
Date: 06/13/25
All Primary Medical Providers (PMPs) have the option to specify the number of members they would like to accept into their practice. However, MHS cannot guarantee a specific number of members for any PMP. Establishing panel sizes requires careful consideration of several factors to ensure that both the practice's capacity and the members' needs are effectively met. The panel size is determined based on the selection made on the Provider Enrollment Form. Member assignments are determined by the member's selection and the Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) auto-assignment process.
If you wish to adjust your panel size, please complete the Change Panel Size Form.
Adding Members to a Full or Hold Panel
If your panel is at capacity or has been placed on hold, and you wish to add a member, please use the Panel Management Form. There is no limit on the number or frequency of additions. For more information on when a member can change their PMP selection and other relevant details, please refer to the MHS Provider Manual.
PMP Selection and Panel Assignments
Members select a Managed Care Entity (MCE) during their Medicaid enrollment period. Once the member selects MHS, our staff assists them in choosing a PMP within 30 days. If the member does not select a PMP within the allotted timeframe, MHS will auto-assign the member to an MHS PMP based on state-approved assignment logic.
Find a Provider Tool
To assist members in selecting a PMP, MHS offers the Find A Provider (FAP) Tool.
Member Education
Members receive education on the significance of their PMP in managing their medical history, addressing concerns, providing clear explanations, and collaborating to maintain their health.
