Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, January 15, 2018. Service and community were central themes in Dr. King’s teachings. In celebration of his life and legacy, many organizations around Indy are offering free admission, special events or volunteer opportunities.

The Children’s Museum

Celebrate the life, achievements, and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with storytelling about courageous children from the Civil Rights Movement and music from The Griot Drum Ensemble.
Eiteljorg Museum

Enjoy the model train exhibit, Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure, plus a fun-filled time in the R.B. Annis Western Family Experience.

FREE admission and parking with donation of a non-perishable food item for Gleaners Food Bank, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Enjoy a special visit to the Zoo. The hardier animals will be out to enjoy the day, including sea lions, tigers, walrus, brown bears and more. Indoor exhibits — Oceans, Dolphin Dome, Deserts Dome and Orangutan Center — will be open, and guests can enjoy a free Dolphin Presentation.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park & Peace Memorial
1702 Broadway St., Indianapolis, IN 46202
This park has a rich history in the community. The site where Robert Kennedy gave his memorable speech the night King was assassinated in 1968, the park is home to the Landmark for Peace memorial sculpture, which honors the contributions of both slain leaders.

FREE admission at all National Park Services sites
All National Parks offer free admission on MLK Day, including the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Lincoln City. It’s a great opportunity to visit a new place or return to an old favorite.
