Your Baby's Sixth Month
Date: 05/29/19
MHS and Project Home Indy care about you and your baby. It’s important to keep up with your baby’s well-child appointments.
At your baby’s six-month checkup, there are more vaccines. Vaccines protect your baby from germs and viruses. They also protect your baby from getting a dangerous illness.
Some vaccines need more than one dose for the best protection. Your baby may have had one round of vaccines, but may still need more.
If your child is missing a dose/vaccine, ask your doctor. He or she will know how to get your child back on the healthy track.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend your child get the following immunizations:
Type of Immunization / Vaccine | What It Does |
DTAP vaccine | protects against diseases that affect breathing and the brain |
Hepatitis B (HEP B) vaccine | protects against liver damage |
Pneumococcal (PCV) vaccine | protects against many types of germs |
HIB vaccine | protects against brain and lung infections |
Polio (IPV) vaccine | protects against a virus that may attack the nervous system |
Rotavirus (RV) vaccine | protects against a virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea |
Your baby’s doctor will also check:
- Weight
- Head size
- Length
- Breastfeeding questions/issues
- General development
- Other parenting questions
