Maximize Your Health

Your HIP POWER Account

All HIP members have a POWER Account. The POWER Account is a special savings account that helps pay for your healthcare. You and the state fund your POWER account together. Your part is based on your income. The first $2,500 of your medical expenses each year for covered services is your deductible. This is paid with your POWER Account. The state will pay most of this amount. But, you will also have to make a small payment to your account each month. If your healthcare costs for the year add up to more than what is in your POWER account, MHS will pay for the rest.

HIP POWER Account (HIP Plus)

HIP Plus members pay into your account each month through your POWER account contribution. Then your account is charged each time you get care. Remember, costs for preventive services do not get charged to your POWER account. You will get monthly statements that show you how much money you have in your account. If you have money left in your account after 12 months, it can be used to help you pay less the next year.

HIP POWER Account (HIP Basic)

HIP Basic gives you a POWER Account that pays for your first $2,500 of healthcare. The POWER Account CAN NOT be used to pay your copays. When you need care, you will pay your copay to the provider. Then, the funds in the POWER Account will be used to pay any balance. After 12 months in HIP, you will be able to POWER Up! and enroll in HIP Plus. With HIP Plus, you don’t have copays. Plus, you get dental and vision care!

If you have money left in your POWER Account - and you got your recommended preventive care – you can lower the amount you pay next year.
