Celebrating Mother's Day: A Reminder of the Importance of Maternal Oral Health

This Mother’s Day let us take a moment to honor the amazing mother figures in our lives.

It’s important to remember that a mother’s health can impact her baby’s well-being. For example, a mother’s oral health can play a role in her baby’s health?

Keeping good oral health during pregnancy is important for both mom and baby. Hormonal changes during pregnancy can make it easier for gum disease to occur. If not treated, it can be harmful to mom and baby. 

Studies show that poor oral health in a pregnant women can cause issues. Concerns are early birth or babies that weigh less than usual. Harmful germs from the mom’s mouth can spread to the baby.

This Mother’s Day let’s remember that taking care of our smiles helps keep both mom and baby healthy. 

Keep mom and baby’s mouths healthy by brushing teeth twice a day, flossing, and visiting the dentist. A healthy smile is a gift that keeps giving to both mother and child for years!
