MHS a Sponsor of American Lung Association 2012 Healthy Lung Expo
MHS is sponsoring the American Lung Association’s (ALA) 2012 Healthy Lung Expo, a comprehensive lung-health educational conference taking place on Thursday, May 31 at the Indianapolis Marriott North.
This second annual Healthy Lung Expo is a one-day conference with two separate tracks — one targeting lung health patients and their families and one targeting lung health professionals. The patient education program features COPD, lung cancer and asthma sessions for patients and caregivers; the professional education program offers Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for nurses and respiratory therapists.
Returning as expo chair and event emcee is Dr. Michael Busk, system executive at The Wellcare Institute at St. Vincent Health. Dr. Busk will offer opening keynote presentations for both the patient and professional tracks. MHS Medical Director Dr. John Ellis will also be a featured speaker, presenting “All that Wheezes is not Asthma.” Dr. Ellis is past president of the Indianapolis Medical Society and participates in Improving Kids’ Environment (IKE).
This year’s lunchtime speaker is Len Geiger, an atypical Alpha-1 Antitrypsin patient who was featured in Discovery Channel’s “Mystery Diagnosis” show. Lung health topics in the day’s agenda include alpha-1, COPD, asthma, lung cancer, pulmonary hypertension, smoking cessation and air quality, among others.
